Vaca Vista Vineyard sits on the valley floor at the southern end of Napa Valley, in the Oak Knoll District — one of Napa's coolest sub-appellations. Well-drained gravelly soils and afternoon breezes off San Pablo Bay moderate ripening, giving the wine a brightness unusual for 100% Cabernet at this level.

Nickel & Nickel was built around a single idea: 100% varietal, 100% single-vineyard, every year. Founded in 1997 at an 1880s farmstead in Oakville, the lineup now covers 20+ distinct Napa Valley parcels under the direction of winemaker Joe Harden. Vaca Vista is the first Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard ever designated in Oak Knoll — and one of the most approachable in the lineup. Wine.com's Wilfred Wong scored the 2019 at 94 points: "packed and well-textured on the palate... aromas and flavors of black fruit, licorice, and oak."
