Nickel & Nickel was built around a single conviction: that California’s most compelling wines would come from 100% varietal, single-vineyard designates — never blended across sites. Founded in 1997 in Oakville, it was the first Napa winery to commit exclusively to this model.
The Truchard Vineyard sits in the Carneros hills west of Napa, where San Pablo Bay wind keeps temperatures moderate and clay-heavy soils with a volcanic streak give wines notable mineral tension. Vine age runs 23–45 years; farming is sustainable and fish-friendly. Aged 10 months in French oak — 30% new, 70% once-used — the wine carries real oak presence without letting it overwhelm the vineyard character.
