This fragrant, textbook nebbiolo from a small family farm (est. 1851) in the heart of the Roero is essentially a declassified, youthful Barolo. Seven hectares on a hilltop above Montà — 30-year-old vines in sandy yellow-ochre soils, farmed entirely without herbicides — the kind of operation that makes Roero's case against its more famous neighbor.
Alessandro Costa ferments in stainless steel, 12 days of maceration, then six months in used barrique before release. Nebbiolo's signature structure is here — firm tannins, vibrant acid — but at a patience level that doesn't require a decade in the cellar.
