The Shustov distillery on the outskirts of Odessa has been making brandy since 1863 — one of the oldest continuously operating brandy houses in Eastern Europe and, by volume, the source of one of the world's best-selling brandies. Charentais copper pot stills, double distillation, Limousin oak barrels: the same playbook as Cognac, built into the Ukrainian Black Sea coast over 160 years, at a fraction of the French price.

The VSOP designation requires a minimum four-year age statement. Distilled from Rkatsiteli, Aligoté, and Pinot — the Eastern European cognac-style trifecta — it drinks well neat or serves capably in any cocktail calling for a brandy base.
