Old Elk's straight rye runs the classic 95/5 Lawrenceburg mash bill — distilled at MGP in Indiana for the Fort Collins, Colorado brand — and spends five to six years in oak before two to five more months in 14-year-old Barbados rum barrels. It's the first rye in Old Elk's Cask Finish Series, which began in 2021.

The rum sits behind the rye rather than on top of it: burnt brown sugar and molasses on the nose, rye spice up front on the palate, allspice hanging on through a long finish. Old Elk proofs its whiskey down in small increments over weeks, not a day or two, to keep the lighter aromatics from cooking off. Build an Old Fashioned with it.
