Old Forester launched their rye whiskey in 2019, reviving a recipe from their own archives — the Normandy Rye formula, acquired by Brown-Forman in 1940, with an unusually high 20% malted barley content that sets it apart from most American rye mash bills. The standard 100-proof version came first; single barrel barrel-proof releases followed in 2021, each bottled at whatever strength the cask gave up.

This barrel came in at 128.8 proof. Old Forester's heat-cycled warehouses run warmer than most, compressing the aging curve — the whiskey punches above its years. Nose of honey, bubblegum, fennel, and floral botanicals. Palate of sharp cinnamon and white peppercorn over caramel and lemon citrus rinds. Long finish of spearmint, molasses, and melon.
