Old Forester has been on Louisville's Whiskey Row since 1870 — America's first bottled bourbon, still produced by the Brown family at the same historic address. The single-barrel rye debuted in 2021 as the brand's first-ever barrel-strength rye release: unfiltered, uncut, built from a 65% rye mash bill traced to a 1940 acquisition called Normandy Rye. Proof varies barrel to barrel; this one lands at 131.2.

Old Forester's heat-cycled warehouses push maturation harder than a conventional rickhouse — the 5-6 years in wood works closer to 7 in flavor terms. The result is a full-throttle rye: caramel and orchard fruit up front, then a long spice-driven finish with black pepper, dried dill, and a flash of anise.
