President's Choice goes back to 1964, when Old Forester president George Garvin Brown II offered the first private single barrels in the industry. The modern series returned in 2018 as a bourbon sold only at the Whiskey Row distillery, then in 2025 it went national and picked up a rye for the first time.

The rye is Old Forester's Normandy mash — 65% rye with an unusually heavy 20% malted barley. Master Taster Melissa Rift and Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo pick each barrel and set its proof somewhere between 110 and 125 to suit what's in it. What you're buying is one of those barrels, so the details shift bottle to bottle.

Across releases, reviewers keep finding the same shape: a rich nose of spiced syrup, baking spice and plump raisin, then a drier palate of oak, leather and cinnamon stick, and a long, dry, spice-led finish. Give it a few minutes in the glass before you judge it.
