FRANCE : BEAUJOLAIS : BEAUJOLAIS SUD

LIGHT-BODIED, FRESH CHERRY, RASPBERRY, CANDIED STRAWBERRY, FOREST FLOOR, NO OAK
La Boutanche is a liter-format collaboration between importer Selection Massale and some of the natural wine world's best producers — fun brightly-colored labels, glou-glou prices, and a winemaker represented on each bottle by a humanoid animal in vivid print. Olivier Minot, the force behind this cuvée (the porcine figure in the Hawaiian shirt), farms organically at Domaine des Charbonnières in the lesser-known southern end of Beaujolais, where five generations of his family have grown grapes.
The grapes are 90-year-old Gamay from Beaujolais Sud — fermented whole-cluster in concrete, bottled with minimal sulfur. The result is textbook Beaujolais done right: crunchy red fruit, silky tannin, high acidity, and zero pretension. Chill it, pour it, repeat.
PAIRINGS :
| Charcuterie board | bright acidity cuts through cured fat; the fruit sings alongside jambon de Bayonne |
| Roast chicken with herbs | the quintessential Beaujolais pairing; earthy herb notes in the wine mirror the seasoning |
| Mushroom pizza | forest floor character in the wine echoes umami; polished tannin handles the cheese |
