Orot is the top tier at Or Haganuz, and the name means lights — a nod to the Kabbalistic idea that gives the village its name. The fruit comes off the northern slopes of Mount Meron in the Upper Galilee, and the wine sits twenty months in French oak before bottling.

The winery was founded in 2005 inside a religious cooperative village near Tzfat, where every business belongs to the community and everyone working the cellar lives there. Rabbi Aharon Ziv has made the wine since the first harvest.

Four Bordeaux varieties, and the two smaller ones do the interesting work: Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc carry blackcurrant leaf, tobacco and forest floor across the darker plum and cherry of the Cabernet and Merlot. Certified kosher under the OU, and kosher for Passover.
