Ottella 'Le Creete' Lugana 2023 750ml
ITALY : VENETO : LUGANA DOC
SUSTAINABLE : Trebbiano di Lugana
MED-BODIED, PINEAPPLE, GUAVA, LEMON PEEL, CHALK MINERALITY, NO OAK
Lugana is one of Italy's small DOCs built around a single indigenous variety — Trebbiano di Lugana, genetically identical to Verdicchio, farmed at the southern tip of Lake Garda on limestone-and-clay soils that drive the chalk mineral character critics consistently note. The DOC was formally established in 1967, and the Montresor family of Ottella helped draw its original boundaries.
Le Creete is the estate's single-vineyard bottling — 12 hectares, vines 30 to 40 years old, late manual harvest with brief skin contact before fermentation split between temperature-controlled stainless and large wooden crates. No new oak at any stage. 91 pts Wine Enthusiast 2024: "layers upon layers to explore... crushed chalky notes define the lengthy and elegant finish."
PAIRINGS :
| Grilled sea bass or lake trout | chalk minerality and saline finish echo lake and sea fish |
| Roasted chicken with herbs | medium body and clean fruit hold up to white meat without dominating |
| Taleggio or Gorgonzola | ripe tropical fruit stands up to pungent, full-flavored cheese |
