Paolo Bea "Santa Chiara" Umbria Bianco 2020 750ml
ITALY : UMBRIA : MONTEFALCO
ORGANIC : Grechetto, Malvasia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Garganega
MED-BODIED, MACERATED PEACH, CANDIED CITRUS, WHITE PEPPER, HONEY, NEUTRAL OAK
Five grapes co-planted, co-harvested and co-fermented on the Pagliaro hill in Montefalco — the same cru that gives Bea his flagship Sagrantino, here farmed for the white-grape parcels. A field-blend orange wine from a producer who pre-dates the natural-wine wave by decades.
The 2020 saw 27 days on the skins per Vinous, then approximately a year on fine lees in stainless steel, unfined and unfiltered, with no added sulfur in vinification. A five-star vintage in Montefalco, lighter and more aromatic than the broader 2017s and 2019s. Vinous 91 pts.
PAIRINGS :
| Porchetta | The wine’s white pepper and fennel pollen echo the rub |
| Korean galbi | Sweet-soy-smoke harmonizes with caramelized fruit and skin tannin |
| Mushroom risotto with thyme | Direct echo of the wine’s musk and truffle note |
