PATRIMONY is the top tier from brothers Daniel and Georges Daou, drawn only from select rows on DAOU Mountain — 2,200 feet up in the Adelaida District, 14 miles from the Pacific, on the calcareous clay that makes this corner of Paso Robles unusual. The fruit is optically sorted, only the free-run juice is kept, and fermentation runs on wild yeasts cultured from the mountain itself.
2019 brought abundant winter rain and moderate temperatures, and the winery calls it the latest harvest on its record. That slow finish shows in the glass: cassis and boysenberry over cedar, lead pencil and crushed stone, full-bodied but fresh after 30 months in barrels from Taransaud, Berger and Vicard. Wine Enthusiast 97 pts.
