Piccini Chianti 2024 750ml
ITALY : TUSCANY : CHIANTI
Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo
MED-BODIED, RIPE RED FRUIT, AROMATIC HERBS, DRIED CHERRY, SOFT TANNINS
The orange label turned up in 2000, when Mario Piccini decided the most traditional wine in Italy had stopped looking like something anyone under forty wanted to buy. He stripped the design back to almost nothing and made it orange. It worked, and the bottle has been the family's flagship ever since.
A good share of the fruit comes from the warmer southern end of Chianti, in the province of Siena, off clay soils broken up with stone. Sangiovese carries 90 percent of the blend, Ciliegiolo and Canaiolo fill in the edges, and a long maceration at controlled temperature pulls color and depth without hardening the tannins.
PAIRINGS :
| Pappardelle al ragù | acidity cuts the braise, red fruit tracks the tomato |
| Margherita pizza | the everyday pairing this bottle is actually built for |
| Roast chicken with rosemary | the herbal edge in the wine meets the herb in the pan |
