The 13th release of Rare, Piper-Heidsieck's prestige cuvee, and the product of a cool, late-ripening vintage: harvest didn't begin until October 2013, producing a wine all seven critics describe as initially reserved and slow to reveal its charms. Eight years on lees, disgorged December 2022 with a 9g/L dosage. The blend draws from 11 crus (7 Grand Cru, 3 Premier Cru), with Chardonnay from Villers-Marmery, Avize, Oger, and Montgueux, and Pinot Noir from Verzy, Verzenay, Ambonnay, and Bouzy.
