Castelprile is the Mascheroni-Stianti family’s first venture outside of Chianti Classico — 22 hectares of organically farmed vines on a hilltop 5 kilometers from the Tyrrhenian Sea, facing the Tuscan Archipelago. The estate is named for an ancient Etruscan coastal lake called Prelius, once harvested for salt; the only fluid left, as they put it, is the wine. James Suckling rated the 2023 vintage 91 points.
Fermented in stainless steel and rested six months on its lees — extended lees contact that builds the texture Suckling called “succulent” without adding oak weight. Bright, dry, and saline.
