Quinta de la Rosa sits near Pinhão in the Cima Corgo, the Bergqvist family's estate since 1906 — five generations from a christening present to the current operation. Winemaker Jorge Moreira, one of Portugal's most acclaimed, has run the cellar since 2002 and was among the early champions of Douro table wine at a time when the region was still thought of as Port country exclusively.
The 2020 is a warm-vintage wine that drinks fresher than the vintage suggests: stainless fermentation preserves the fruit, nine months in used Allier oak adds structure without imposing, and the schist soils of the Cima Corgo lend the minerality that threads through both the Suckling (91 pts) and Wine Spectator (90 pts) notes. "Fresh and juicy," Suckling called it — high praise for a year that saw temperatures hit 40°C and yields drop across the Douro.
PAIRINGS :
| Braised lamb shoulder | dark fruit and modest tannin handle the fat; herbs in the braise mirror the wine's sage notes |
| Chouriço and aged Manchego | the classic regional charcuterie match; acidity cuts through cured meat and firm cheese |
| Duck leg confit | Touriga Nacional tannin and the wine's sanguine edge pair cleanly with fatty poultry |
