Roger Groult has been distilling Calvados in Saint-Cyr-du-Ronceray since 1860 — five generations in, still family-run, still wood-fired copper pot stills. The cider base is 100% apple, allowed to ferment naturally before two distillations. Aged a minimum of three years in old Limousin oak, with a portion of older Calvados blended in.

The Pays d'Auge designation is the strictest in Normandy: double distillation is required, which drives off harsh congeners and builds a cleaner, more refined spirit than the single-pass Calvados you find elsewhere. Wine Enthusiast 91 pts (2024).
