Royal Tokaji built its reputation on first and second growth vineyard parcels in Mád — the heart of the Tokaj region — drawing on volcanic soils of rhyolite and zeolite that concentrate flavor while preserving the lively acidity that separates great Aszú from simply sweet. Botrytized berries, hand-selected puttonyos by puttonyos, deliver the honeyed richness; the volcanic origin keeps the wine's backbone intact.
The 2017 was just the eighth Aszú vintage of the century. A hot summer accelerated botrytis development, and October delivered three textbook weeks of morning mist, afternoon sunshine, and drying winds. The result is Aszú with exceptional richness, depth, and an unusually bright acidity — built for the cellar. Decanter 96 pts. James Suckling 95 pts. Wine Spectator 93 pts.
