Part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection since its inaugural 2000 release, Sazerac 18 Year is the most aged expression in the BTAC lineup, drawn entirely from Buffalo Trace's Kentucky rye stock. The mash bill is undisclosed, widely assumed to share the same grain recipe as the standard Sazerac Rye. Proof is set at 90 by design: low enough to keep the rye character alive after 18 years in new oak, high enough to hold together.

The 2022 release is 18 years and 6 months in barrel. Critics who follow the BTAC closely regard it as the best of the modern-era production. On the nose: rye grain, dried apple, burnt caramel, a trace of anise. The palate balances summer fruit and rye spice with a disarming vanilla syrup note; the finish stretches long with dry aged oak, peppercorn heat, and leather.
