Founded in 1982 by German immigrant Jörg Rupf, St. George was America's first craft distillery, operating out of a 65,000-square-foot former Navy hangar in Alameda. Lot 23 is the 23rd annual release of their flagship single malt, blended by Head Distiller Dave Smith from 26 hand-selected casks: Kentucky bourbon barrels, apple brandy casks, French oak, and California Sauternes-style and Port casks ranging from 4.5 to 12 years old.

The mash bill is 100% two-row barley malted at five distinct roast levels, including alder and beechwood-smoked malt imported from Bamberg, Germany. That layered grain bill produces the whiskey's characteristic arc: bright citrus and quince at the opening, caramel and chocolate in the middle, a long dry-oak finish with grapefruit peel.
