The Mercer family planted wine grapes in the Horse Heaven Hills in 1972 — one of the earliest vineyard operations in what is now one of Washington’s most important AVAs. The Eagle & Plow estate vineyards sit on soils deposited by the Missoula Floods over 20,000 years ago — the ancient sediment layers the Subsoil brand is named for. Steady Columbia River winds drive through the AVA year-round, slowing ripening and concentrating flavor without sacrificing acidity.
100% barrel fermented, with half the barrels undergoing malolactic fermentation for a creamy midpalate. Two percent new French and American oak gives structure without dominating. Full-bodied fruit, bright acidity, and a soft, savory finish.
