Taconic works out of Stanfordville in Dutchess County, and cuts its whiskey with spring water drawn from Rolling Hills Farm, the family's own property down the road. Paul Coughlin runs the place with his wife Carol Ann and their three daughters.

Dutchess Private Reserve sits a minimum of six years in new charred American oak, which is old for a Hudson Valley bourbon at this price, and a quarter of the mash is rye, so it finishes dry rather than sweet. Nothing Taconic makes is chill filtered, so expect a little haze if the bottle gets cold.
