Tenuta la Pergola 'Birbet' Brachetto 750ml
Tenuta la Pergola 'Birbet' Brachetto 750ml
ITALY : PIEMONTE : MONFERRATO
ORGANIC : Brachetto
LIGHT-BODIED, WILD STRAWBERRY, ROSE PETAL, RASPBERRY, NO OAK
In the Monferrato hills, the Brachetto grape goes by a different name: Birbét, Piemontese dialect for "little rogue." The Bodda family at Tenuta La Pergola has made this wine from Cisterna d'Asti since 1903 — sweet, gently sparkling, 6% ABV, and entirely indifferent to the Brachetto d'Acqui DOCG appellation that made the grape internationally famous. Kermit Lynch, the importer, calls it "the red equivalent of Moscato d'Asti" — same frizzante logic, same delicate sweetness, but built on a red grape with aromas of wild strawberry, rose, and raspberry instead of peach and apricot.
Serve it cold — colder than a red wine, about the temperature of a sparkling white — and drink it the same day you open it. This is the wine to reach for when someone says they don't drink red wine.
PAIRINGS :
| Strawberry tart | ripe berry mirrors ripe berry; the wine's sweetness matches the pastry without competing |
| Dark chocolate | the wine's slight structure and wild berry flavors cut through chocolate richness |
| Prosciutto e melone | salt and sweetness; a classic Piemontese aperitivo combination |
