Felipe Camarena represents the third generation of a family that has been shaping Mexico's tequila canon for decades. His grandfather founded Tapatio and Tesoro de Don Felipe; his brother created Ocho. Terralta, launched in 2011, is Felipe's own project made at El Pandillo distillery (NOM 1579) in Jesus Maria, a small highland town whose red clay soils and high altitude produce agave with distinctive mineral weight.

Agave plants are estate-grown and hand-harvested at 8 to 10 years of maturity, cooked in a custom stone oven with top-and-bottom steam jets for even heat. The agave is crushed using a 19,000 pound steam roller, built from salvaged parts and named Frankenstein, that presses without breaking the fibers responsible for bitterness. Fermented with the same wild yeast Felipe's grandfather used 80 years ago, double distilled in copper stills, and proofed down with water from a 459-foot deep well on the property.
