The Balvenie has operated in Dufftown since 1892, one of only a handful of Scottish distilleries still maintaining its own floor maltings, coppersmith, and cooperage on-site. The distillery is owned by William Grant & Sons — a family-run, independent company across multiple generations known for protecting production practices that most of the industry abandoned decades ago.

The fifth release in The Balvenie Stories Collection, and the first in the series matured entirely in sherry wood. Nineteen years in European oak oloroso casks — no bourbon wood, no double maturation — is the debut solo release from Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie, the direct successor to David C. Stewart MBE after his 60-plus-year tenure. A tribute to The Balvenie's on-site cooperage and Head Cooper Ian McDonald, who joined the distillery in 1969.
