Double Cask is Macallan's two-oak recipe — American and European oak casks, each seasoned with sherry in Jerez de la Frontera, then filled on the Speyside estate and left for at least fifteen years. The 15 is where the American oak leads, vanilla and lighter fruit up front, with the European oak supplying the dried fruit and spice the house is known for. The colour is entirely natural.

Butterscotch, dried fruit and baked apple on the nose, with a little chocolate and smooth oak; raisin, sultana, cinnamon and nutmeg over creamy vanilla on the palate, and a medium finish of oak and spice. Whisky Advocate 93 pts (Winter 2020 review), No. 16 in its 2020 Top 20.
