Domaine de Triennes works 46 hectares of limestone and clay at 380 metres in the Var, facing south toward the Sainte-Baume massif. Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac and Aubert de Villaine, co-owner of the Romanée-Conti, came south to make a Provençal wine rather than a Burgundian one.
The barrels are Dujac's own, retired from Morey-Saint-Denis once they have given up their oak flavour, which is why the structure here arrives without the taste of wood. Twelve months in them, lightly fined, bottled unfiltered, certified organic since the 2014 vintage.
2022 was a drought year in Provence: three or four heat waves, water restrictions across the Var, then rain in mid-August that reached the vines in time. Picking started ten to fifteen days early and the fruit came in small, concentrated and unusually healthy.
