Two Shepherds Pinot Meunier Hopkins Vineyard Russian River Valley 2021 750ml
Two Shepherds Pinot Meunier Hopkins Vineyard Russian River Valley 2021 750ml
USA : CALIFORNIA : RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY
ORGANIC : Pinot Meunier
LIGHT-BODIED, RASPBERRY, CRANBERRY, BLACK TEA, HIBISCUS, SOFT TANNINS, BRIGHT ACIDITY, NO OAK
The Hopkins Vineyard is the oldest Pinot Meunier planting in Russian River Valley, planted roughly 25 years ago and found by accident — William Allen of Two Shepherds took a wrong turn while picking up two goats, and the vineyard happened to belong to the goat seller's father. It's under long-term contract now, and all the fruit goes into this wine: ~250 cases per year, no more.
In the cellar, Two Shepherds handles it the way they handle everything: native yeast fermentation in half-ton bins, aging in neutral barrels, zero fining, zero filtration, minimal SO2. The result tastes exactly like the vineyard — light, transparent, built around the grape's natural acidity and red-fruit core.
Pinot Meunier is almost never bottled as a varietal still wine in California. In Champagne it's blended for its early ripening. Here it stands alone.
PAIRINGS :
| Duck confit | acidity cuts fat cleanly; herbal notes bridge the richness |
| Mushroom risotto | black tea and earthy notes echo the umami without competing |
| Charcuterie and aged cheeses | bright, clean fruit works against salt and fat |
