The Mattern vineyard sits on the Talmage Bench east of Ukiah, planted in the 1930s on gravelly loam and farmed by the family who live on it, head-trained and dry-farmed, certified CCOF Organic and Demeter Biodynamic.
Samantha Sheehan ferments with native yeasts and gives the wine twelve months in neutral French oak, so the malolactic rounds the texture without laying any wood over the fruit. Wine Enthusiast 92 pts, and a Best Buy.
