Valentin Leflaive Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs
Valentin Leflaive Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs
FRANCE : CHAMPAGNE : COTE DES BLANCS
SUSTAINABLE : Chardonnay
MEDIUM-FULL BODIED, LEMON CURD, GRILLED PEAR, BRIOCHE, TOASTED ALMOND, NEUTRAL OAK
A joint venture between Erick de Sousa of the Côte des Blancs and Olivier Leflaive of Puligny-Montrachet — two of France's most serious Chardonnay specialists — sourcing 100% from Grauves premier cru, where 45-year-old vines grow in chalk soils at 170 meters.
Vinified 70% in stainless steel and 30% in neutral oak, then blended with reserve wines and bottled at 4.5 g/L dosage. Drier than most non-vintage Champagne, with more texture than the Extra Brut category typically delivers — the oak is real, not decorative.
93 pts Wine Enthusiast (Roger Voss, Best of Year 2019), 93 pts Burghound, 91 pts James Suckling, 90 pts Wine Advocate, 90 pts Wine Spectator.
PAIRINGS :
| Oysters on the half shell | chalk mineral backbone meets brine |
| Seared scallops, lemon beurre blanc | citrus thread cuts the butter |
| Caviar | the archetype — what Champagne was made for |
