The Dão sits on a high granite plateau in central Portugal, hemmed in by the Serra do Caramulo and Serra da Estrela — mountain ranges that produce a continental climate with cool nights, sandy granite soils, and naturally low yields. Touriga Nacional anchors the blend with dark fruit concentration and backbone; Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) adds earthiness and weight; Alfrocheiro contributes aromatic freshness and vivid color.
Barão de Vilar is the van Zeller family's wine project — 14 generations in the trade, formerly owners of Quinta do Noval. No oak here; the granite and the grape speak for themselves.
