Vinum Cellars 'PETS' Petite Sirah 2021 750ml
USA : CALIFORNIA : CLARKSBURG
SUSTAINABLE : Petite Sirah
FULL-BODIED, BLACKBERRY, BOYSENBERRY, DRIED VIOLETS, FRENCH OAK
Wilson Farms has been growing Petite Sirah in the Clarksburg AVA since the late 1970s — fourth-generation farmers whose original vines in this block went into the ground in 1979. This is the 25th vintage of PETS from that vineyard, made by Richard Bruno and Chris Condos of Vinum Cellars, named for the Wilson grower's dog Tanker. Clarksburg sits in the Sacramento River Delta: warm days, but a Pacific cooling sweep arrives every afternoon via the San Francisco Bay, dropping temperatures and locking in natural acidity.
Wine Enthusiast 90 pts Best Buy: "concentrated blackberry, boysenberry compote, cigar, tar, and dried violets on the nose, sliding into savory spice, mushroom, black tea, star anise, and toasty vanilla cream on the finish." James Suckling matched it at 90: "deep, succulent fruit… lingering and dense."
PAIRINGS :
| Carnitas tacos with chile spice and salsa fresca | the winemaker's pairing — dark fruit and tannic grip track the chile heat |
| Grilled tri-tip or filet mignon | full body and firm tannins hold up to char and sear |
| Portobello mushroom cap | earthy notes and dried violet bridge naturally to umami |
