Wheated Bourbon — Corn, Wheat, Malted Barley
FULL-BODIED, VANILLA, CARAMEL, DARK CHOCOLATE, DRIED STONE FRUIT, NEW OAK
William Larue Weller introduced wheat as the flavoring grain in Kentucky bourbon in 1849 — trading rye for a softer, rounder style that still bears his name. This 12-year release is the flagship of that tradition, produced at Buffalo Trace from the same wheated mash bill as Pappy Van Winkle, aged long enough for real wood depth without losing the grain character.
Twelve years in new charred American oak builds caramel and butterscotch from the barrel; the nose runs deeper — sandalwood, candied orange, toasted walnut. The finish is long, with drying tannins, coffee, and dark chocolate. Bottled at 90 proof, no chill filtration.
SUGGESTED SERVES :
| Neat | 90 proof opens without water; vanilla and caramel lead cleanly at room temperature |
| Single large rock | opens the fruit slightly, tames oak tannin — the right call in summer heat |
| Splash of water | a few drops coax grain and citrus notes forward without closing the finish |
90 Proof
