Jimmy Russell created this in 1976 as the first honey-flavored bourbon recipe — a gateway built on Wild Turkey's own mash bill blended with pure natural honey. It ran for three decades as Wild Turkey Liqueur before the name changed to American Honey in 2006. Campari Group acquired Wild Turkey in 2009 and continues production at the Lawrenceburg distillery.

At 35.5% ABV it pours rich and sweet — not a sipping whiskey but a purpose-built cocktail component. Best in a highball (1 part American Honey, 3 parts club soda over ice) or substituted for simple syrup in a whiskey sour alongside a full-proof bourbon.
