Bruce Russell's first series on his own, and the first Wild Turkey bottle to carry only his signature. The reference point is the 101 12-Year released between 1985 and 1992 — the garish metallic wrapper collectors call Cheesy Gold Foil, and the most sought-after vintage Turkey there is.

He didn't clone it. Gold Foil goes four years past the original's age statement and nineteen points of proof above it, pulling 503 barrels from the Camp Nelson rickhouses that fed Russell's Reserve 15 and Master's Keep Beacon. Batched at 148 proof, cut to 120, non-chill filtered.

Distilled in 2008 on the old Austin Nichols still — the one Jimmy and Eddie both learned on, and by Bruce's own account the last international release to come off it entirely. Cherry, oak and leather, carrying the mature funk that made the dusties worth hunting. VinePair 96 pts.
