Yann Bertrand Fleurie 'Folie' 2025 750ml
FRANCE : BEAUJOLAIS : FLEURIE
CERTIFIED ORGANIC : Gamay
LIGHT-BODIED, RED CHERRY, RASPBERRY, CRUSHED FLOWERS, NEUTRAL OAK
Yann Bertrand grew up in Fleurie, the son of a vigneron, and learned the no-additions school of Beaujolais from Jean Foillard and Yvon Métras before joining the family domaine — the third generation of Bertrands on the Château de Grand-Pré vines his grandparents took over in 1972.
Folie is his younger-vine Fleurie: 1.2 hectares of Gamay, 5 to 50 years old, on crumbly granite sand, from certified-organic vines. Hand-picked, cold carbonic maceration with no added yeast or sulfur, then six to seven months in tank and old 225-liter barrels, bottled unfiltered by the lunar calendar and sealed in wax.
Cherry and raspberry, a lift of crushed flowers, a savory, herbal finish. The domaine calls it a vin de soif — drink it now with a light chill, or give it three to five years for more finesse.
PAIRINGS :
| Saucisson sec and pork rillettes | bright acidity and light tannin cut the cured fat |
| Herb-roasted chicken | red fruit and a savory finish for crisp skin and pan juices |
| Mushroom and Gruyère tart | the earthy, floral side meets the mushrooms |
