Poggio Salvi Brunello di Montalcino 2019 750ml
Poggio Salvi Brunello di Montalcino 2019 750ml
ITALY : TUSCANY : BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO
SUSTAINABLE : Sangiovese
FULL-BODIED, DRIED CHERRY, ROSE PETAL, DRIED HERB, DUSTY MINERAL, NEUTRAL OAK
A refined Brunello with chalky, polished tannins and a spike of acid. The palate is a mix of savory and sweet, with a whisper of earth and sage underneath a blanket of crushed red cherry and baked plum; the finish, starring tart cranberry and dusty mineral notes, is a wonderful grande finale.
Villa Poggio Salvi sits near the hilltop town of Montalcino at up to 500 meters elevation — one of the highest positions in the zone — where limestone-rich soils and Tyrrhenian sea breezes drive the fine, precise character that defines the estate. Third-generation family ownership; 30 months in large Slavonian oak botti per the traditional house style. The 2019 vintage is among the finest for Brunello in a generation — and James Suckling agrees: 95 points.
PAIRINGS :
| Wild boar ragù over pappardelle | the classic Montalcino pairing; the wine's tannins cut through fatty braised game |
| Bistecca alla Fiorentina | Tuscan tradition — the wine's acid and mineral backbone hold up to aged beef |
| Aged Pecorino with truffle honey | earthy, sweet contrast draws out the wine's dusty mineral finish |
