FRANCE : BURGUNDY
Pinot Noir
MED-BODIED, STRAWBERRY, RASPBERRY, BLACK PEPPER, MINERAL, NEUTRAL OAK
We were somewhat surprised to learn that Isabelle and Denis Pommier’s organically farmed 16 hectare estate in Chablis (est. 1990) near the village of Poinchy is one of the very few in the region to hand-harvest a significant portion of their production! Although most known for their distinctly mineral and terroir-driven Chablis, they also make a small amount of Bourgogne Rouge, such as the beautiful and energetic “Grain de Survie,’ which is equal parts fruit, floral, and earth.

FRANCE : LOIRE VALLEY

MED-BODIED, DARK FRUIT, VIOLET, BAKING SPICE, EARTH, SMOKE, USED OAK
Julien Courtois and his partner have Heidi Kuka have worked tirelessly to restore a neglected 4.5 hectare estate of 40 year old vines in Sologne, where they recognized the land’s potential despite the condition of its long-damaged soils. Courtois has since succeeded in producing a slew compelling, terroir-driven natural wines from this small but mighty estate; the elegant and concentrated ‘Ancestral’ is a fine example of his best work. Give it ~30 mins to open & reveal its magic.

SOUTH AFRICA : WESTERN CAPE : COASTAL REGION
Sauvignon Blanc
MED-BODIED, GREEN MELON, PASSION FRUIT, LIME, GRASS, LEES CONTACT, FRENCH OAK
Founded by a group of local Cape Town sommeliers, KFW works with winemakers across the Cape to provide underserved members of the community with access to good, quality wine. 100% Sauv Blanc, ‘Blanc Fumé’ undergoes both oak ageing and 11 months of lees contact, thereby adding just enough weight to balance the vibrant, tangy aromas dominating the palate. Sancerre this is not, but if you’re looking for something that’s multi-layered, delicious, and a little bit outside the box — give Blanc Fumé a shot!

Nicknamed the "King of Pinot," King Estate Winery is credited for popularizing and reinventing Pinot Gris (aka Pinot Grigio, but don't think of it that way) in the US. The Domaine Pinot Gris is one of their premier bottlings: luscious, juicy, and round, it has layers of bright tropical and stone fruit (think lychee, kumquat, and white pear), elegant minerality, and wonderfully refreshing, balanced acidity.

Sciacarello (Mammolo)
LIGHT-BODIED, STRAWBERRY, POMEGRANATE CHERRY, ROSE, HERBAL, SPICE, EARTH, OAK
Light and fresh, with perfumed aromas and distinct herbaceous and spicy notes — this unique red from the esteemed Clare Valley appellation in Southern Australia is made from the Corsican varietal Sciaccarello (Shak-ar-ellom, or “Mammolo” as it is known in Tuscany), indicative of a wider trend in Aussie winemaking for the production of elegant, light-bodied reds using traditionally Mediterranean varietals (which have done well in the face of an increasingly warm climate). Aged in a Slovenian oak 2000L foudre for 6 mos & racked to steel for 3 mos. Unfined/unfiltered.

Brothers Damon and Juno Koerner are a terroir-minded duo who seek out the distinct sense of place in their wines by harvesting fruit early and practicing minimal intervention in the winery. This particular bottling is an outstanding and unique expression of Clare Valley Riesling — zippy and dry, it is dominated by bright citrus fruit and crisp acidity, with some added texture & spice from skin contact and 8 months of lees-ageing. Fermentation occurs in a combination of stainless steel and ceramic amphora for two months. Unfined/unfiltered.

Malagousia
MED-BODIED, STONE FRUIT, MELON, MANGO, FLORAL, SAGE, CITRUS, MINERAL, LEES, NO OAK
Located in the rural town of Karditsa, Andreas Kontozisis and his partner Aphrodite Tousia are pioneers of organics and sustainability in Greece. Certified since 1991, they were one of the first producers in Greece to do so — and despite resistance from the local market, have been buoyed by their small yet loyal following ever since. Grapes are hand-harvested from low-yield, estate-owned vineyards; in the winery no presses are used (only free-run wines) and indigenous yeasts. Fresh and crisp yet quite round and layered, ‘Sun White’ spent 6 mos. on the lees in steel tank with periodic stirring for added complexity.
