This fragrant, textbook nebbiolo from a small family farm (est. 1851) in the heart of the Roero is essentially a declassified, youthful Barolo. The estate has adopted organic methods and uses natural fertilizers and no herbicides; wine is from 30 year old vines and aged on average for six months in barrique, and two months in bottle before release. Grapes are picked slightly early for maximum freshness; the wine is naturally fermented and matured on the lees in 300L old French oak barrels for 9 months.

During Prohibition, more than 200 distilleries were forced to close. Old Forester, however, continued operations because the federal government issued us one of six medicinal licenses, P-3. In 1924, Old Forester acquired barrels from closed distillers, with different mash bills, and bottled that liquid as Old Forester. This release commemorates that moment in time."

Rich and layered (but light), this Pét Nat from the Osmote family's small winery on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake is equally beautiful in the glass as it is on the palate: a deep, dark – almost opaque – purple color rimmed with lovely fuchsia bubbles, the wine itself has lush bramble fruit with mint, violet and woodsy notes alongside zingy acidity and chalky tannins.
